Ministry of Defence Contract Award
Nottingham, United Kingdom: Nexor Limited has been contracted to lead a consortium, including Envitia and 2IC, to demonstrate the technical feasibility of data sharing across multiple domains.
“For over 20 years the MOD and the Defence industry have been trying to achieve Campaign Advantage through the provision of data to whoever needs it, from wherever it is derived, at the time and place of need. Nexor is proud to have been chosen by the Futures Lab to demonstrate how this can be achieved.” Tim Thompson, Managing Director, Nexor Limited.
“This is an exciting project for Future Labs and we are pleased that Nexor have been selected to lead the project. The MDIS project is challenging the norm, with a faster approach to procurement through to a different approach to achieving Multi Domain Integration” James Gavin, Head of the Future Capability Group (FCG) at Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S).
The MDIS project will provide the MOD with the following features & benefits:
Nexor’s contribution to MDIS will enable edge-based processing to share data across the battlespace, resulting in reduced communication needs, faster reaction times and greater autonomy;
The MDIS approach eliminates the need for a single systems integrator, removing the IP issues that have bedevilled previous attempts to integrate the force;
The approach will save time and resources where sensor, decider and effector providers are enabled to integrate their solution into wider systems, rather than being reliant on a single prime systems integrator;
The Single Information Environment, on which MDIS is based, enables data to securely flow from its point of origin to its point of need and is a key enabler for both the Defence Data Strategy and the wider Multi Domain Integration.
The approach supports the Defence Data Strategy principles where data is available to all users and is standardised, secure and curated, through enabling a single source for each data set.
The goal of the MDIS project is to form the basis of future multi domain integration projects and to also inform the Campaign Advantage requirements in the 2025 integrated review.
