Nexor Sentinel 3 on SELinux Launched and Shipped
Nexor, the company that connects, transforms and protects sensitive information for defence, security and resilience programmes, announces full release of Nexor Sentinel Version 3, the SELinux based version of its successful high assurance mailguard. Sentinel 3 has been immediately shipped to two government agencies.
Nexor Sentinel protects an organisation by ensuring that any outbound data is conformant to the data sharing policy and any inbound data has been suitably checked to prevent entry of inappropriate content that could lead to a downstream denial of service. Sentinel 3 mirrors the functionality of Sentinel 2, the well-established STOP1-based version that is the mailguard of choice for boundary protection services for NATO mission systems.
In response to market demand for an open systems version of the guard running on industry standard hardware, Nexor has built Sentinel 3 as an appliance on HP Proliant Servers using SELinux, which was founded as a development project by NSA2. By using SE Linux, Nexor was able to leverage the underlying EAL4 operating system’s features to complement and enhance the end-to-end security model.
In building Sentinel 3, Nexor has drawn on the expertise of leading SELinux authority and host of the SELinux open source repository, Tresys Technology, to ensure the robustness of the security policies.
“The concept of extending the Nexor guard family with different operating systems provides our customers with the choice of an EAL5 or an EAL4 evaluated platform, with a proven application that is already widely deployed and represents significant value for money over competitive offerings” comments Steve Kingan, CEO.
For full details, see the Nexor Sentinel Datasheet.
1 STOP is a BAE Systems’ proprietary operating system running on XTS400 hardware.
2 NSA is the US National Security Agency
